Hearts for Jesus
2023-2024 Mission Project: Garuna Christian
(Lutheran) School
Each year, the Minnesota South District education committee chooses a project to support with their prayers and offerings throughout the school year. Hearts for Jesus is a wonderful opportunity for Lutheran schools and centers to support a designated mission outreach ministry.
For the 2023-2024 Hearts for Jesus project, our MN South Lutheran schools will be able to spread the Good News of Jesus with children and their families by helping to furnish Garuna Christian (Lutheran) School #8 in Siem Reap, Cambodia, and to provide transportation for students. There are now nine schools open in Cambodia, a country where only 2% of the population trust in Jesus. Each school averages approximately two hundred K–6th grade students who are called “Garuna Kids.” The schools are operated by Garuna in support of the development of the Cambodia Lutheran Church. The mission of Garuna is “to support and encourage the proclamation of the grace, mercy and compassion (garuna) of Jesus Christ to the peoples of Thailand, Cambodia and surrounding countries.”
The Minnesota South District is encouraging schools to utilize Garuna Christian (Lutheran) School (a Recognized Service Organization of the LCMS) for the 2023-2024 Hearts for Jesus project. To assist you, feel free to use these flyers in your promotion:
In addition, Garuna ministries will provide chapel materials. Schools will receive access to videos, powerpoints, object lessons, student worksheets, parent notes, and more! There is even a folder specifically for the MN South “Hearts for Jesus!” Open this to see all the great resources!
Families and individuals are also encouraged to support Garuna Ministries. You can give to Hearts for Jesus through your local Lutheran school. You may also prayerfully consider sponsoring a Garuna Kid, a student of Luther Institute Southeast Asia (LISA), or a Garuna Christian school teacher.
